At least 87,000 Jeep Wranglers in the US. And Canada is being recall because of the possibility of risk of fires. This is according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
There are already 14 complaints of fires cause on the 2010 Wranglers, but no claims of injuries or fatalities connected to the problem.
The problem is said to be in the Skid plate that that protects the transmission and the catalytic converter, the plate makes it possible for debris to collect and press up against the SUV’s catalytic converter. Because of the high heat that can lead to a fire.
Chrysler, will fix the problem free of charge by replacing the plate with a bar so debris doesn’t get caught.
The recall is limited to Wranglers equipped with automatic transmissions built during the 2010 model-year. The recall affects about 68,000 Wranglers in the U.S., 6,000 in Canada, 1,500 in Mexico and about 11,000 in other countries, Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne said. Chrysler will contact all the owners by mail.
